Stag beetle

There once lived the biggest stag beetle in the world. It lived in New Zealand. It feasted on dead bark, rotten wood, tree sap and sugary liquid. The ancient and rare stag beetle was a tough challenge to find. It’s habitat was dense forests and dead woodlands but this beetle was very difficult to find in dead woodlands and dense forest. Most things and humans found it in compost bins and dead bark. Sadly this giant of an insect died in 2014 some hikers were on a bush track in Wanaka and they found it in the rarest place it could of been found in. The great giant fell dead in one of the hikers hand palm. Scientists believe that it was on a migration to mate with a female.

Did you now that the life cycle of a stag beetle has four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Stag beetles undergo complete metamorphosis, meaning they have distinct larval and adult forms.

Matariki star

  • In a group of 3 we coloured and cut out 3 of the Matariki star cluster. We had to work together to get the colours matching so when we put it together it matched. Then we glued the stars together on black paper and got the Pleiades star cluster.
    • Matariki, also known as the Māori New Year, is the appearance of the Pleiades star cluster in the night sky during the winter months.

Jacob

We learned about different types of media. There are three types of media. They are print media, social media and broadcast media. I learned a lot from this lesson.

Rabbit detectives

In the far lands of New Zealand there was a  forest with great big willow trees. Under one of the willows is a big hole. If you go in you will find a rabbit city. A rabbit detectives club. Some of them are astute and clever. They’re always looking for clues and solving problems. One day they had to solve the hardest case they had ever solved in their lives. It was about a car crash. They were trying to solve who caused the car crash. First they looked for fingerprints. They did not find anything but then they looked again and found.

Wait until part two.
